Travelling to South Africa and onward to Garland Hunting Safaris is straightforward, and our team will provide the practical information you need to ensure your journey is as smooth as possible.

Getting to Garland Hunting Safaris

Most international guests travelling to Garland Hunting Safaris will enter South Africa through O.R. Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg or Cape Town International Airport.

From Johannesburg or Cape Town, guests can take a domestic connecting flight to East London Airport, where a member of the Garland Hunting Safaris team will meet you on arrival. From East London, we will provide road transportation to our base camp, allowing you to relax and enjoy your first introduction to the Eastern Cape.

If you are travelling with firearms, please inform us before booking your domestic flights. Airline policies regarding the transportation of firearms and ammunition can change, and not all domestic airlines accept firearms. We will gladly assist you with the latest information and recommended flight arrangements for travelling to East London with your firearm.

Passports & Visa Requirements

All international travellers entering South Africa must travel with a valid passport that meets the applicable South African entry requirements.

Depending on your nationality and the purpose and duration of your visit, you may be permitted to enter South Africa for tourism without obtaining a visa in advance. Many international visitors, including travellers from the United States and certain European countries, do not require a VISA to enter South Africa.

If your safari itinerary includes travel to another African country, additional visas, entry requirements or documentation may apply. Please confirm the requirements for each country included in your itinerary before travelling.

Travelling with Children & Minors

We warmly welcome families and young hunters to Garland Hunting Safaris and believe that introducing the next generation to responsible hunting, conservation and the outdoors is an important part of preserving the hunting tradition.

Families travelling with children under the age of 18 should confirm the latest documentation requirements for minors travelling to and from South Africa before departure. Depending on the circumstances of travel, additional documents may be requested, particularly when a minor is travelling with only one parent, with another adult or unaccompanied. These documents may include a birth certificate or equivalent document showing parental details, copies of the parents' identification or passports, and written consent from a non-travelling parent or legal guardian where applicable. Because requirements may differ depending on nationality, family circumstances and travel arrangements, we recommend confirming the documentation required with the relevant South African authorities and your airline well in advance of your departure. Please ensure that all documentation is prepared before travelling, as immigration and airline authorities have the final discretion regarding entry and boarding requirements.

Travelling with Firearms

Hunters planning to bring their own firearms to South Africa will need to comply with South African firearm import requirements and airline regulations. Please advise Garland Hunting Safaris well in advance if you intend to travel with your own rifle. Our team can provide guidance on the process and help ensure that your travel arrangements are compatible with the transportation of firearms and ammunition.

Alternatively, you can use a rifle and ammunition through Garland Hunting Safaris, providing a convenient option for guests who prefer to travel without their own firearms.

Planning Your Journey

We recommend booking international and domestic flights with sufficient connection time, particularly when clearing immigration, collecting baggage and firearms, completing firearm procedures and checking in for your onward domestic flight.
